Rector's Ramble April 2019

In case you have ever wondered, the earliest date Easter can be is March 22, and the latest is April 25. So this year Easter falls towards the late end of the spectrum (21 April).

Passiontide is the term often given to the last two weeks before Easter, for the obvious reason that as the days go by we think more and more about the events leading up to our Lord’s suffering (“Passion”) and the cross.

Palm Sunday is the Sunday before Easter, when we remember Jesus riding into the city with the crowds shouting “Hossana! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord”. It marks the beginning of the last few days of Jesus’ life. Some churches have a procession with a donkey that day.

Over the following days Jesus taught daily in the temple. Then on the Thursday evening He had a final meal with his friends before He was arrested, put on trial and crucified. For many that looked like the end of his life and all He stood for. But we look beyond the day of crucifixion to the glory of the Resurrection on the 3rd day– together we will celebrate the risen Lord Jesus on Easter Day

We will mark all these events of Holy Week:

- Palm Sunday, 14th April. Service at 09:30

- Monday -Wednesday evening prayers daily in church at 18:30

- Maundy Thursday, 18th April. Service of Holy Communion with foot washing at 18:30

- Good Friday, 19th April. Meditations on the cross, 12:00-15:00, with "Sunday School" 14:00-15:00

- Easter Day, Sunrise service of Holy Communion and renewal of baptism vows at 05:30. Service of Holy Communion, 09:30

Lent and Easter blessings to you
